About Me

My photo
On a quest to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I enjoy conversation with good friends over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. If I could be anywhere on earth, I'd choose to be on the beach, in the moonlight, with my feet buried in sand up to my ankles.

Z is for Zest

A friend handed me a post it note yesterday with this saying on it: don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. It struck me as profound. I’ve been doing a lot of crying lately, buckets in fact, but not much smiling. I can’t ignore the tragedies of the past year, but I don’t have to ignore the joys either. Those belong to me as well.

Such as:

Exploring a windmill field … without getting caught

Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge

Climbing rocks and not falling to my death

Comparing silly socks

Drinking wine and doing taxes with my best friend (don’t send the auditors, please)

Snuggling and laughing with my son

Zest for life or much of anything for that matter does not come easily right now, but I’m willing to try to find it because life without it is completely flavorless.

I participate in Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday. Visit her site for great posts on the letter Z.

  1. It's the little things that make life worth living..a good cup of coffee, a sweet perfect piece of chocolate.. If you can find joy in doing your taxes (I guess the wine does really help), you can find joy in your life again. Just keep pretending until you feel it! It works for me...

  2. Keep on expecting that you will have zest for one thing every day....and wear those socks lots - they'll make you smile!

  3. Loved this. Your determination to rise above whatever has happened inspires me. I'm rooting for you!

  4. Profound indeed. I know how hard it can be at times when life has thrown curve balls. Just remember the quote and try to focus more on the joy and hopefully, it will take away the pain. Good Z post and hang in there ;-).

  5. You are doing right thing - your zest for life will get you through....Life is Good - after all...blessings...bkm

  6. Kudos to you for focusing on your blessings! Thanks for sharing the quote your friend gave you. I'll try and remember that, too. Take care!

  7. I love the quote! What a great take on the letter Z! I am glad you are counting your blessings!

  8. sounds like some good positives there...hope the tears pass and smiles are back for yu soon...

    thanks for popping by today!

  9. I have never been here so I do not know what has transpired in the past. All that I can say is that you seem to have taken a positive step here.

  10. Ah what a wonderful quote. Here's to your resolve to continue forward and focus on all your wonderful moments and memories. Here's to more sunny days ahead!

    Blessings & Aloha!

  11. I love that quote. I've made a copy of it for myself. Keep on letting the joy find you. ~ Sarah

  12. Very, nice.
    Truthfully, very nice indeed.

Happy Z day Alpha Meme :)

  13. I love that quote.

And I'm glad you found it.

Sometimes it seems like the hits just keep on coming...and we really, really just want to the bad music to at least pause for awhile.

I'm sorry things are tough right now.

I hope that both the silly socks and knowing are being sent prayers and hope helps a tiny bit!

    Thank you for linking.

  14. smiling makes everything better sometimes it just takes a lot of strength to do it when life can be so hard......hang in there!
